Cruisin' Copenhagen

The cruise to Copenhagen was very pleasant with some beautiful views along the way. We enjoyed a couple of beers on the top deck of the ship, walked the facility to see what there was to offer, and had another beer in one of the main bars after grabbing a bottle of wine from the duty free store.

Henry was having so much fun on board that he was extremely reluctant to go down for the night. Jennifer used a few of her baby whisper techniques and he finally was down for the count. Unfortuately, in the process Sam got pretty tuckered out too and the remainder of the night was relatively uneventful.

In the morning we enjoyed a coffee as we watched our vessel pull into the Copenhagen port and anxiously awaited the excitement of exploring a new country. After a few hang-ups on our way to the hotel, we checked into our room, changed clothes, and set out for the famous Carlsberg Brewery just outside the City Center.

The Carlsberg Brewery dates back to 1844 and was recognized as one of the most innovative breweries of the time. J.C. Jacobsen founded Carlsberg and brought technology to the brewing process as well as science helping Carlsberg become today's fourth largest brewer in the world.

We enjoyed our stroll through the various buildings of the brewery, tasting the beer on site, and learning a little about the brewing process. Sam was excited when we stumbled across an old Morris Minor Traveller much like the one he drove in high school and still has today.

Our next stop was Tivoli Gardens, one of the World's oldest amusement parks and the inspiration for Walt Disney's Disneyland. Tivoli Gardens is a beautiful facility that retains the character of an amusement park that would have existed 100 years ago. We quickly walked the relatively small 20 acre facility and then posted up in one of the grassy areas to relax and enjoy a beer.

Henry especially liked crawling around in the grass and climbing around the chairs. Jennifer got a little anxious though when an exotic bird kept getting close to our sitting area. Henry eventually wore himself out and took a little nap while we enjoyed some people watching.

Ready to try some Danish cuisine, we took a recommendation from our guide book and ate at a typical Danish restaurant in a plaza off the main pedestrian fare-way. We were very pleased with the lamb shank, potatoes, and root vegetables that we ordered. Stuffed and ready for some relaxation, we headed back to our hotel and called it a night. Our first day in Copenhagen was a very relaxing one and we are excited to see more of the city tomorrow!
