Sailing the Turquiose Sea

The overcast sprinkling weather on Thursday morning was far from ideal to begin our sailing voyage up the Mediterranean Coast. Regardless, we were excited for the change of pace and to meet the crew that would be accompanying us for the next four days. Our last shipmate finally arrived after struggling through a morning hangover and we were ready to set sail.
Our “Blue Cruise” consisted of four days, three nights, on a beautiful yacht that sailed along Turkey’s southwestern turquoise coast. Eleven fellow travelers, the boat captain, a sailor, and a chef accompanied the two of us on our trip. Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Chile, and the United Kingdom represented the home countries of our fellow travelers.
The captain was nice but quiet, the cook was even quieter but did a great job with the meals, and the “sailor” was a fun, energetic, slightly kooky young man who had a thirst for learning about western culture and the lives of those on board. The boat crew worked very hard and helped make the trip even more enjoyable than we had anticipated.
The boat was quite beautiful with lots of sun lounging areas as well as covered decks to cool off from the warm weather that we were blessed with from the moment we stepped aboard the yacht. Our cabin was quite cozy with our own individual bathroom, double bed, and window out to the sea.
Our days consisted of sailing the bright blue sea and stopping off at various bays to snorkel, swim, and enjoy the small villages and ruins that were scattered along the coast. Throughout this blog we have posted various pictures illustrating the highlights we most enjoyed.
On day four we arrived at the Fethiye port where we had to say goodbye to our new friends. The two of us were very pleased we made the voyage without experiencing the seasickness that Sam vividly remembers from his childhood voyages to Catalina. We had a wonderful time relaxing on the journey and getting to know our fellow travelers from around the world.
