Adios Barcelona… Bon Jour Nice

Our morning started early as the alarm went off and we finished getting ready for our day of travel to Nice.  Jennifer was quick to get on Sam’s case for not being more compassionate the night before when the loud “lightning” kept her awake.  Sam inquired as to what the issue was and she said she was afraid of the building “burning down.”  Sam’s response to this obviously did not help him make up for his lack of compassion during lights out the night before.  Once laughter resolved our playful squabble, we checked-out and headed into the rain to catch the metro for the train station.

The train ride was very pleasant with beautiful views and mixed company.  While some of the passengers were a little difficult, we did meet a nice lady who was a film director heading to the Cannes Film Festival for a small project she was receiving accolades for.  She was kind enough to share her wine with us and help us change trains in Marseille (we needed to transfer trains due to a derailment that happened earlier in the day on the same route).

After our 10+ hour day of travel we were excited to reach our hotel in Nice, France.  The staff was friendly and despite staying in a “hostel,” the rooms are nice and we are only a couple blocks from the beach and the center of the popular historic district.
After taking a stroll down the beach, and Jennifer being disappointed that there were not any more nude men, we walked thru the historic district.  The streets were vibrant with many bars, restaurants and little galleries.

We found a nice French restaurant where we sat on the patio next to a friendly Finnish couple.
We both ordered local cuisine, Sam ordering vegetables stuffed with beef, veal and pork while Jennifer ordered sea bass accompanied by salad and potatoes. To Jennifer’s unpleasant surprise, her meal arrived looking as though it had just been caught and placed on the plate with all body parts still in tact.  Soooo… Sam kindly switched meals with Jennifer giving her an opportunity to adjust to the site of the fish and wait for Sam to de-skin the little guppy.

The meals ended up being our favorites so far and we equally shared the two.  After enjoying our desert and finishing our bottle of French wine, we walked along the promenade and found a hotel bar with panoramic views of the city.
