Nice is Nice, Mayhem in Monaco

The morning started with a pleasant jog along the boardwalk with a final ascent to a hilltop park.  The park provided beautiful views of the coast and contained ruins of an ancient castle that once stood at its prominent location atop the city.
Before heading back to our hotel we strolled through a cool cemetery with elaborate graves dating back many centuries. We spent the rest of the morning eating breakfast & relaxing at our hotel before catching a bus to Monaco.

The hour bus ride was full of spectacular views of the clear blue sea and coastal estates.  We knew that the Formula 1 Grand Prix was taking place in Monaco this weekend, but little did we know how crazy it would be.  The minute we got off the bus, crowds of people surrounded us and we could hear the cars racing in the streets.  Sam was drooling over all the Lamborghinis, Porsches, Rolls Royces, Bentleys, and Ferraris around town.

Making our way around town was a bit confusing and hectic, but we managed to find our way to the Monte Carlo area where the famous casino is located.

The craziness of the weekend made it too difficult to stroll through town on foot, so we hopped on a bus to go over to the “old town.”  This area was full of beautiful buildings, an old castle and small narrow streets with restaurants and shops galore.  From one of the walkways, we were able to catch a glance of the race going on down below.
Getting out of Monaco was another difficult task because of traffic and construction, but we finally made our way home in the early evening.  Once back to the hotel, we celebrated our 1-week anniversary with some wine and snacks on our patio.   Then, we went over to the promenade to try some of the pizza we had been seeing all around town.
